Maker of the Month in Good Health, Wellbeing & the Great Outdoors magazine

  • Google Calendar ICS

Jenny has been selected as ‘Meet the Maker: Burnout to Beautiful Brushstrokes’ in the Good Health, Wellbeing and the Great Outdoors magazine for May 2021.

‘When Jenny Brown, a busy mum, grandmother and former teacher, experienced burn-out in 2010 and was later diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, she didn’t take it lying down. Instead, she was compelled to paint Scotland’s seascapes and native flora and fauna – something which ultimately helped her on the road to recovery.’

She shares frankly her life story and how art has shaped her life: “I attribute my inventiveness to childhood poverty and make-do-and-mend. When I was 14, I had nothing to wear to a family wedding, so I dyed a sheet, made a skirt, ruffle-hemmed with one of my mum’s old scarves; I cut up a white jumper that was too wee and made a top; and finally wove strips of cloth into a bag, lined it to match the skirt and attached a pleated strap. I prided myself on making clothes that didn’t look homemade.’’

Open Studios Ayrshire Annual Showcase at Rozelle Gallery

21/03/2017

Art lovers across South Ayrshire are being invited to see work from a range of diverse and inspiring artists at Arts of Rozelle in Ayr this Spring. Three exhibitions will fill Rozelle House, and the Maclaurin Galleries from Sunday 26 March.

Following on from the phenomenal response from visitors to the Alexander Goudie exhibition of ‘Tam o’ Shanter’, the spotlight is shifting to focus on the work of Glasgow artist, Frank McFadden, a retrospective of the work of Yvonne Hawker, and new work from the Open Studios Ayrshire.

Supported by the Council, and in partnership with the Maclaurin Trust, these three exhibitions represent the work of artists working and living in South Ayrshire, emerging new talents, while being mindful of those no longer with us.
